When you create an account, we collect your email address. We use these to create your account, send you transactional emails (like a password reset), and send occasional product updates about Katchup. You can unsubscribe from product emails at any time using the link in any email we send — transactional emails (like password resets) are not affected by unsubscribing.
You add people to Katchup manually or by importing their name from your phone's Contacts app. We store each person's name, your relationship to them, your preferred catch-up cadence, and any notes you choose to add.
When you log a catch-up, we store the date, how you connected (text, call, or in-person), and any notes you choose to write about what you discussed. These notes are the primary input for your AI conversation starters.
When you request conversation starters, we send your catch-up context to an AI service — this includes your relationship description, any notes you've added, and recent catch-up history. We never send the contact's name. The AI provider we use does not use this data to train their models. The generated starters are stored in your account so we don't need to regenerate them every time you open the app.
We collect usage events tied to your account — things like "user opened the reach out screen" — to understand how the app is being used. We query patterns and counts, not individual behavior or note content.
If you grant notification permission, we store a push token so we can send you reminders to reach out to people on your list. Your device settings are the primary way to manage this — the app will show you your current permission status.
We capture your timezone when you open the app so we can send nudges at a reasonable local time rather than the middle of the night.
We don't sell your data. Ever.
We work with a small number of third-party services to run the app — including our database and authentication provider, our AI provider for conversation starters, our push notification platform, and our email providers for transactional and marketing emails. We choose providers who take data privacy seriously and we don't share more than necessary for each service to do its job.
You can request to delete your account and all associated data at any time.
When you delete your account, we remove your personal information — your name, email, contacts, catch-up logs, notes, and conversation starters. We may retain a minimal anonymized record for internal integrity purposes (for example, to prevent duplicate account issues), but nothing that can identify you. Note that your email address may persist in our authentication system for a short period after deletion — it is not used for any purpose after your account is deleted.
To delete your account: go to Settings → Delete Account inside the app, or email us at hello@katchup.me and we'll process it within 7 days.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal information within 30 days. Anonymized, aggregated usage statistics (e.g. "47 users logged a catch-up in May") may be retained indefinitely as they cannot be linked back to you.
Katchup is not designed for or directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13.
If we make material changes, we'll notify you via email or an in-app notice before the changes take effect. The "last updated" date at the top will always reflect the current version.
